Our Awesome and Personal God: Recovering YHWH

There is something remarkable hidden in plain sight throughout much of the Old Testament. God has a name. Not merely a description. Not merely a title. Not merely a position of authority. A name. In the Hebrew Scriptures, that name appears over six thousand times as four Hebrew consonants: יהוה, commonly represented in English as YHWH and frequently rendered Yahweh . Yet most Christians can read the entire Old Testament without encountering Yahweh even once. Instead, wherever YHWH appears, most English translations print LORD , usually in small capital letters. There are understandable historical reasons for this. But something can be understandable and still have harmful consequences.
